The documents in this compendium are products of the Acute Flaccid Myelitis Working Group (AFMWG) (https://acuteflaccidmyelitis.org/) and were developed to standardize collection, processing, storage, and shipment practices for specimens used for research and the clinical assessment of potential AFM cases. They are available for download from https://acuteflaccidmyelitis.org/healthcare-providers/handling-biological-samples/. The authors state that the developed SOPs “are in ine with the CDC instructions for specimen collection” and the users should “visit the CDC website for more information about what samples are required for surveillance and how to contact your state and local health departments.” Please consult the AFMWG and CDC websites for current recommendations.
