Study Purpose
The purpose of this study was to determine if antigen retrieval (0.05% citraconic anhydride, pH 7.5, and microwave heating) of FFPE sections fixed for different durations (6 h- 30 d) yielded similar results for ER and cytokeratin (CK) antigens.
Summary of Findings:
All FFPE tissue subjected to antigen retrieval yielded appropriate positive immunostaining for ER and CK. The intensity of ER immunostaining was slightly reduced in specimens fixed for longer (30 d) compared to shorter durations. The authors conclude reported results support their hypothesis of antigen retrieval-mediated standardization of specimens fixed for different durations.
