Description
This document describes three options for the procurement of ductal and lobular breast cancer specimens, stage IIA-IIIC, to be used for proteomics or genomic analysis. The three tissue procurement procedures described are (i) tumor excision at lumpectomy/mastectomy, (ii) large-bore percutaneous tumor coring before lumpectomy/mastectomy, and (iii) large-bore percutaneous coring during port placement. Specimens are suitable for genomic or proteomic analysis. A procedure for the collection of peripheral venous blood prior to the administration of anesthesia is also included. Protocols are a product of the Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium (CPTAC; http://proteomics.cancer.gov/programs/cptacnetwork), which is sponsored by the National Cancer Institute's Office of Cancer Clinical Proteomics Research (http://proteomics.cancer.gov/).
