Study Purpose
The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of age on APTT and Anti-FIIa activity in plasma spiked with heparin. Plasma specimens were pooled according to age and frozen at -85 degrees C until analysis.
Summary of Findings:
At therapeutic levels of heparin (0.35 to 0.7 Anti-FXa International Units (IU)/mL), APTT and Anti-FIIa activity were higher in plasma from children less than 5 years old than adults (p<0.05). Further, increasing Anti-FXa heparin concentrations resulted in higher increases in APTT in plasma from children than from adults.
