Study Purpose
The purpose of this study was to determine the variability in miRNA expression in platelets over the course of 10 days, and to determine the effects of donor consumption of ASA on miRNA profiles. Platelets were prepared by leukocyte depletion of platelet rich plasma after blood was collected into trisodium citrate tubes. Platelet pellets were stored at -80 degrees C until RNA extraction using the miRNeasy Mini Kit, and eluted RNA was stored at -80 degrees C until analysis. Microarray analysis was performed using the Geniom Biochip miRNA homosapiens.
Summary of Findings:
All 221 miRNAs found to be expressed in platelets showed relatively stable expression over the 10 days of specimen collection, and none were significantly altered 24 hours after patients received a 500 mg dose of ASA on day 9.
