Study Purpose
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of preheating time on thrombin generation in plasma.
Summary of Findings:
The endogenous thrombin potential was overestimated by 50% when specimens were preheated in the instrument for 2 min. Preheating in the instrument for more than 2 minutes resulted in specimen evaporation and up to a 4 degree C difference in temperature between wells. When specimens were preheated for 5-15 min on the plate heater, thrombin generation became consistent.
