Purpose of Paper
This paper compared levels of eight microRNAs (miRNA, miR) in case-matched serum and plasma collected from men and women. The eight miRNAs were selected due to their implicated role in sudden sensorineural hearing loss.
Conclusion of Paper
Levels of all eight of the miRNAs evaluated because of their implicated role in sudden sensorineural hearing loss (miR-30a-3p, miR-128-3p, miR 132- 3p, miR-375-5p, miR-590-5p, miR-140-3p, miR-186-5p, and miR-195-5p) were comparable in serum and plasma specimens and in specimens from men and women. The authors identified 102 miRNA targets of seven of the eight miRNAs evaluated, and enrichment analysis identified enrichment of PI3-Akt, MAPK, RAF, and FOXO pathways.

Study Purpose
This study compared levels of eight microRNAs (miRNA, miR) in case-matched serum and plasma collected from men and women. The eight miRNAs were selected due to their implicated role in sudden sensorineural hearing loss. Blood was collected from 8 women and 9 men a median of 3 weeks after sudden sensorineural hearing loss. Serum and plasma were separated (details not provided) and stored at -80°C. RNA was isolated using the miRNeasy Mini Kit and stored at -80°C. Levels of miR-30a-3p, miR-128-3p, miR 132- 3p, miR-375-5p, miR-590-5p, miR-140-3p, miR-186-5p, and miR-195-5p were quantified by real-time PCR.
