Study Purpose
The purpose of this study was to compare PT in specimens from patients on oral anticoagulant therapy collected in glass Vacutainer tubes with those collected in Venoject II tubes. The effects of using tubes at the end of their shelf life and leaving tubes out of their pouch for an extended time were also investigated.
Summary of Findings:
Regardless of whether tubes were used at the end of their shelf life or not, or whether the tubes were kept out of their pouch for 30 days (maximum recommended by manufacturer) or not, PT tests results were always 10-30% longer when Venoject II tubes were used for collection compared to glass Vacutainer tubes.
