Study Purpose
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of blood collection method on cyclosporine concentrations in pediatric leukemia and blackfan diamond anemia patients.
Summary of Findings:
When cyclosporine was administered through iv line, blood obtained through CVL had 1.3-2.9 fold higher cyclosporine levels than peripheral capillary specimens, however, specimen collection method had no effect on the measurement of cyclosporine when the antibiotic was administered orally. The authors conclude that there is a problem with adsorption of cyclosporine by the silicone in the CVL during drug administration.
