Purpose of Paper

The purpose of this paper was to determine the effects of storage temperature and condition on bilirubin levels in plasma.

Conclusion of Paper

Bilirubin concentrations were not affected by storage of light protected plasma at 3 or 22 degrees C. However, when specimens were stored at room temperature with light exposure, bilirubin levels decreased, but they remained within the allowable error (20%) of the assay.

Studies

  1. Study Purpose

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of storage temperature and light exposure on bilirubin levels in plasma.

    Summary of Findings:

Bilirubin concentrations were not significantly affected by storage of light protected plasma at 3 or 22 degrees C for 24 h. Specimens with normal or elevated bilirubin levels were unaffected by storage at room temperature with light exposure for up to 8 or 24 h, respectively, but bilirubin levels decreased when specimens were stored at room temperature with light exposure for 24 or 48 h, respectively (both p<0.01). However, these decreases were within the allowable error (20%) of the assay.
