Study Purpose
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of the addition of the oral iron chelator DFX on measured sFe and UIBC using 4 different assay systems with the 7180 clinical analyzer. Serum was obtained from 4 different institutions. No details of handling or preservation were provided.
Summary of Findings:
Adding up to 300 uM of iron-free DFX to pooled serum had no effects on the measurement of sFe using any of the 4 analyzer reagents. Adding iron-free DFX to pooled serum resulted in a concentration-dependent increase in UIBC for all analyzer reagents tested, but the increase was minimal (approximately 1%) using Ferene.
