Purpose of Paper

The purpose of this paper was to determine the effects of gender and age on clinical chemistry analytes in pediatric serum specimens.

Conclusion of Paper

Aldolase, creatine kinase, ceruloplasmin, pancreatic amylase, prealbumin, and uric acid showed statistically significant gender variations in at least one age group, but amylase showed no significant differences based on gender in any age group.

Studies

  1. Study Purpose

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of gender and age on aldolase, amylase, pancreatic amylase, ceruloplasmin, creatine kinase, prealbumin, and uric acid levels in pediatric serum specimens.

    Summary of Findings:

Aldolase was significantly higher in 6-8 year old females and lower in 12-17 year old females than in age matched males. Creatine kinase was significantly higher in males than females for every age group except 6-8 year olds. Ceruloplasmin and pancreatic amylase were significantly higher while prealbumin and uric acid were significantly lower in females than males in the older age groups (12-14 y and/or 15-17 y). Amylase showed no significant differences based on gender for any age group.
