Purpose of Paper

The purpose of this paper was to determine the effects of aliquot sequential collection on prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) using specimens from patients on oral anticoagulant therapy.

Conclusion of Paper

Significant differences were found in PT, APTT, and international normalized ratio (INR) between plasma from the first collection and plasma from the second collection.

Studies

  1. Study Purpose

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of aliquot sequential collection on PT and APTT using specimens from patients on oral anticoagulant therapy. 2 specimens were consecutively drawn into tubes containing sodium citrate.

    Summary of Findings:

Significant differences were found in PT, APTT, and INR between plasma from the first collection and plasma from the second collection. The differences in PT between collection tubes ranged from -15.4% to 18.2%. The differences in APTT between collection tubes ranged from -16.86% to 27.99%. And lastly, the differences in INR between first and second collection tubes ranged from -28.6% to 23.7%, and the difference in INR between the two tubes increased with increasing INR values.
